Read-a-thon at the Mall in Honor of Dr. Seuss

Lynchburg, VA - Children gathered at River Ridge Mall Saturday morning to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday. It was all a part of the Read Across Central Virginia event sponsored by Sylvan Learning Center. The Center has sponsored this program for 11 years and this year, they traveled to 18 elementary schools and read to nearly five thousand students.

Saturday's party included a celebrity read-a-thon, where the Mayor, council members, and our very own Sean Sublette and Justin Feldkamp read to children.

The Sylvan Learning Center says it is important for kids to enjoy and appreciate reading.

"It's really important that we all support reading and it's not just about school. It's the adventure of reading, the idea that so much of popular movies that we watch all began as a great story," said Bob Morgan, Sylvan Learning Center.

The party was a day early; Dr. Seuss's birthday is actually Sunday. In his lifetime, he published a total of 46 children's books.
