WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT TODAY

This afternoon areas of light to moderate snow expected. Snow will taper off by late day.

Through the mid to late afternoon, accumulations of 2-5" are possible for the greater Lynchburg area. Those spots south of 460 will be on the lower side of that range, with areas north of 460 on the higher end. Amounts of 3-6" will be found across the Highlands, and into Rockbridge, northern Amherst, and Nelson counties. The Roanoke and New River Valleys can expect 1-3", and Southside Virginia picks up a coating to an inch.

Afternoon temperatures will hover on either side of 20 degrees. Road conditions will be dangerous, especially into tonight.

Areas of ice develop area-wide this evening, as lows crash into the single digits for most areas, to near 10 degrees Southside.

Continued cold Tuesday, with some sun returning. But a Northeast breeze, Arctic air mass, and fresh snow will hold afternoon highs in the 30s.
