Police Car Involved in Crash

Danville, VA - A Danville Police officer was taken to the hospital Wednesday after a two car accident.

Emergency crews got the call just before 8 o'clock this evening to the intersection of Memorial Drive and the Robertson Bridge.

Police tell us Officer E.R. Crane was trapped inside his car and had to be removed by Jaws of Life.

He was then taken to the Emergency Room.

Police believe it was a T-bone collision between the police officer and another vehicle.

While Police say they do not believe it is the officer's fault -- they are still investigating.

Both Crane and the driver of the other vehicle were transported with non-life threatening injuries.

The Danville Fire Department, Life Saving Crew, and Police responded -- even the Chief of Police came out to the scene.

Traffic was stopped in some directions and in others slowed down for at least a half hour.

Police say it is especially difficult to respond to accidents involving another officer.

Sergeant Jeffrey McLaughlin with the Danville Police Department says, "it's real tough when you respond to a scene and it's one of your personnel. It's like a family when you respond to these types of calls."

Police will determine if there will be charges after they finish their investigation.
