Lynchburg Museum Hosting First Friday Event

Lynchburg, VA - The Lynchburg Museum on Court Street is hosting an event for "First Friday" Friday March 7, 2014.

They will be open free of charge from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The event will highlight objects from the Point of Honor Collection that aren't displayed at the historic home, Point of Honor.

Point of Honor is an establishment left by Katharine Garland Diggs, the daughter of Judge John Singleton and Mary Elizabeth Slaughter Diggs.

She was a teacher for Lynchburg Public Schools for 39 years and was active in the community until her death in 1971.

She left money for this museum to preserve for future generations tangible evidence of customs and ways of life observed by the citizens of Lynchburg since its establishment.

The money left by Miss Diggs was used to begin the restoration of Point of Honor and to establish a trust fund for its future.

She also left many of her personal items to be left on display including jewelry, family photographs, glassware, a family cookbook, and a portrait.

The museum is normally open Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4:00 p.m.
