Family and Friends Remember Former Randolph College President Dr. Bill Quillian

Lynchburg, VA - Dozens gathered Monday to honor Dr. Bill Quillian, the longest-serving president at Randolph College. Quillian passed away on March 4th, shortly before his 101st birthday.

Laughter cut through the tears as family and friends celebrated the life of Dr. Bill Quillian.

"Some men are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them...I think he fits all three," said colleague Kenneth White.

His former colleagues shared stories of the man they say dedicated his life to community service.

During his 26-year presidency he oversaw significant improvements to the university, including a push for racial integration.

Quillian's son Robert shared the story of how his father posted bail for two students, after they were arrested for participating in Lynchburg's first Civil Rights sit-in in 1960.

Many also attribute the development of the liberal arts college to his fundraising efforts.

After the funeral a visitation was held for Quillian at Westminster-Canterbury, where he has lived since 2003.
