Lynchburg City Council to Vote on Tinbridge Hill Neighborhood Plan

Lynchburg, VA - The Lynchburg City Council will vote to adopt a sustainable neighborhood plan for the Tinbridge Hill community.

The 'Growing Tinbridge Hill' plan was drafted with help from a North Carolina consultant team.

With one glance, it is easy to see the Tinbridge Hill community is historic.

Tinbridge Hill was established in the late 1800's, made up of working class families who owned their homes.

By the 1980's, more houses became rental properties and the environment was not as safe as it once was.

"We take pride in where we live and we truly want Tinbridge Hill to be a good place to live, work and play," expressed Tinbridge Hill Neighborhood council member Phyllis McDaniel.

In the last 20 years there has been a rigorous effort to revitalize Tinbridge Hill.

"It started with the residents of Tinbridge Hill, they wanted something better for their neighborhood" said McDaniel.

The 'Growing Tinbridge Hill' initiative sets achievable goals tackling a range of topics, from infrastructure problems like overgrown sidewalks or unsightly homes, to inspiring the next generation of leaders.

Community organizers hope Lynchburg City Council will vote to adopt this plan, and show the city's support for their efforts.

"We want this plan to work so it will one day be used as a model for other neighborhoods in the city," McDaniel said.

A large focus for the plan is to help homeowners get funding assistance to renovate their homes as well as to re purpose the many vacant lots in the neighborhood.
