SCAM ALERT: Lynchburg Circuit Court Issues Warning Regarding Home Deed Solicitations


Lynchburg, VA -The Lynchburg CircuitCourt Clerk's Office, along with a number of other Clerk's Offices across the state, have reported being contacted by concerned citizens about mail solicitations indicating that a copy of a person's home deed can be obtained by sending a certain company $83. 

This incident has become so widespread that the Attorney General has released a statement warning the citizens of Virginia of this scam.

This solicitation hasbeen titled by the company as a "Deed Processing Notice" and has areturn address of Sioux Falls, SD. It  appears to be an official noticebut is nothing more than a solicitation.

Citizens should be aware that theycan obtain a copy of their deed or related documents from the local CircuitCourt Clerk's Office where the recording was made for a copying fee of .50cents per page (typically 2 to 3 pages) at any time they need it. 

Homeowners are under no obligation to response to this or to purchase acopy of their deed.

Anyone who believes they have been a victim of a fraud or another consumer crime is asked to call the Virginia Consumer Protection Hotline at 800-552-9963.
