Altavista Boys Prepare for Title Game Against Radford

Posted:

Lynchburg - The Altavista boys practiced late Thursday afternoon at Lynchburg College, the 22-and-3 Colonels take on 26-and-2 Radford Saturday at 2 in Richmond for the state championship.

Both teams won state last year, and with the realignment this season, now they go head-to-head for the 1A state title.  The Colonels practiced Wednesday at LU and Thursday at LC to get work in on longer floors and prepare for a Bobcats team that shoots well and really defends.

Mike Cartolaro, ALTAVISTA HEAD COACH, said "For sure we're going to have to handle the pressure and you know if they want to play a fast game, we're going to have to handle that.  We're gonna have to go at 'em kind of like we did with West Point last year."

Dennis - "What do you think is going to be key on Saturday?"

Richard Hubbard, ALTAVISTA SENIOR GUARD, said "Definitely rebounding.  You know we're going to have to get on the boards well and everybody's going to have to play well as a team.  You know we're going to have to make some shots from outside, and inside we're going to have to take advantage of 'em I think."

Mike Cartolaro said "It's Radford.  We kind of had a feeling if we made it, it was going to be Radford.  And we're glad to be here and we know we've got our hands full."
