Eyes of Freedom Leaves Lynchburg with Escort

Lynchburg, VA – The Eyes of Freedom Memorial left Lynchburg Friday with a police, antique truck, and motorcycle escort.

The tractor trailer carrying the life-size portraits of 26 men who died in Iraq in 2005 is heading back to Ohio, after the portraits spent a week on display downtown.

Out of the 95 places the memorial has been so far, the leaders say Lynchburg has been the best and they want to return.

"This community blew our minds," said Sean Flaharty with Eyes of Freedom. "We couldn't believe that we were welcomed this way and exiting town this way. This doesn't happen everywhere we go."

From Lynchburg, the procession headed to the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, and on to Ohio.
