Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - The Boys and Girls Club in Lynchburg held a black history month art competition. The winners were announced Friday.

Entries had to be portraits of influential African-American figures. Some of the entries included Stevie Wonder and Rosa Parks. But the big, first place winner, 17 year old TyQuante Simms drew baseball legend, Jackie Robinson.

"Being sports driven, I played baseball when I was little, so I figured he would be one of the most influential people in sports, so I picked him" said Simms.

Simms was awarded a $500 gift card. He said he hopes to use it towards college. He is headed to Virginia State University in the fall.
