Conservative Group Seeks Info On Whether Teens' Abortions Were Properly Reported

Roanoke, VA - The Family Foundation ofVirginia, a conservative advocacy group, is trying to find out whether healthofficials at the Roanoke Medical Center for Women met what it says is a legalobligation to inform police about abortions on two teenage girls.

Foundation officials say their concernwas triggered by the state Health Department's December 2012 inspection of theRoanoke Medical Center for Women.

The inspector noted that the clinicfailed to supply notarized parental consent forms for the two girls.

Foundation officials say that statelaw requires that the pregnancies be reported to law enforcement because"carnal knowledge" of a 13- or 14-year-old is illegal. Both teenswere 14.

The Family Foundation filed a FOIArequest seeking documentation that the cases were reported.

The Health Department said it had no relevantrecords.
