RALEIGH - College basketball is a small world. Whenever the matchups for the NCAA Tournament come out you can find some type of link between the two teams. One connection for Friday night's UVa-Coastal Carolina game deals with UVa coach Tony Bennett and Coastal coach Cliff Ellis. Bennett played college basketball at Wisconsin-Green Bay. That team played Clemson way back in 1990. The coach of that Clemson team at the time -- was Ellis. "I didn't think he'd remember me but we talked about that so that was the time and he knows my father obviously in the coaching circles," Bennett explained.
Ellis said Bennett was "a tremendous player, he was gutty. I remember the game in which we played. I can't remember how many points he scored but he was just a tough player. He was feisty as a player. He could score and he's brought that to the game and the coaching game. He's crafty so I have a lot of respect for him."
No 16 seed has ever beaten a 1 seed and Ellis said it will happen and it shouldn't be an embarrassment when it does happen. UVa fans just hope it's not Friday night.
