Martinsville Speedway Not Worried About Possible Snow

Martinsville, VA - Just a week away from race weekend at the Martinsville Speedway and the staff is in high-gear getting ready. But they are keeping an eye on the forecast for possible snow next week. Folks at the Speedway say don't worry, they will still be ready.

Right now it is business as usual at the Speedway, getting ready for the thousands of fans and the famous drivers. But as our meteorologists point out the worst weather will likely be on Tuesday. And that's a good thing because it will leave plenty of time for the snow to melt and the track to hopefully clear up on its own.

You may remember last Spring's race, it snowed on Thursday before the race. But they were still able to get the dryers out and make sure the track was in good condition.

Speedway President Clay Campbell says it's been years since they've had to postpone a race. He doesn't expect for that to be the case this year. But you have to also think about the campers who will be here all week outside. Campbell says many campers are used to cold conditions, and often even enjoy a little bit of snow. So he doesn't expect this weather report to hurt ticket sales.

"We're in an outdoor sporting event world. So weather is a factor that we have to deal with, football teams have to deal with, everybody. In our case we can't run if it's wet," said Campbell.

No matter the weather, we will be at the track bringing you live coverage on race days. And that includes an hour long special Trackside at Martinsville on Saturday March 29 at 7pm.
