Raleigh, NC - Number 1 seed in the East, Virginia, trailed by as many as 10 in the first half before rallying to beat 16 seed Coastal Carolina 70-59 Friday night.

The Cavaliers' comeback helped them avoid being the first number 1 seed to lose to a 16, a number 16 seed has never beaten a number 1 since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985. Anthony Gill came off the bench and scored 17 points to lead Virginia, Malcolm Brogdon added 14, London Perrantes 12 and Joe Harris 11.
Evan Nolte came off the bench and hit two huge 3's to help Virginia finally push away from the Big South champion Chanticleers who were in the tournament for the first time in 21 years.
The game was tied at 47 before Nolte's 3s triggered a 23-7 spurt that put the game away.
Virginia improves to 29-and-6 on the season and will face Memphis Sunday in the next round. The Tigers defeated George Washington 71-66.
