Multiple Crews Respond to Bedford County Brush Fire

Bedford Co., VA-- The Virginia Department of Forestry says a brush fire in Bedford County has been fully contained and extinguished. The fire scorched nearly 20 acres of land off Cifax Road in Forest Saturday afternoon.

Crews with the Forest Fire Department saw smoke from the fire and called in other departments around 1 o'clock. Firefighters from Bedford, Big Island, Boonsboro, and Campbell County responded to the scene. A Warden with the Department of Forestry says without their support, the fire could have been much worse.

"Take a look around, we're really in a forested land and as I told you earlier, the fire did get over the ridge right there and if the fire had gone a little bit farther we would have had a lot more acres involved. So as I said, a big thank you to everybody that came out today," said Warden Jeremey Falkaneu.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
