Lynchburg Schools Crunched For Time After Winter Weather

Lynchburg, VA -  ABC13 spoke with Lynchburg City Schools about the impact the recent winter weather has had on learning.

Lynchburg City Schools said they budgeted eight snow days into the school year, but have missed ten.

They have adjusted the schedule and plan to makeup those ten days. However, with the prospect of more weather heading our way, the school says they can only hope for a delay, if anything.

They have already missed out on some crucial preparation time when it comes to SOLs. The school system is the middle of taking writing SOLs right now. Students will be tested on other subjects throughout the month of May.

Director of Instruction, Brian Wray says the missed time was unexpected and has really put a pinch on teachers' lesson plans and they may not be able to review some subjects as they had hoped.

"Teachers have had to make adjustments to their lesson plans, unit plans, some enrichment activities like field trips may have needed to be adjusted or eliminated to give the amount of time necessary to prepare students for their SOL assessments," said Wray.

If they do have to cancel school again, the school board will have to decide how to make-up the time.
