Virginia is two days away from its date with Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16.
Virginia guard Malcolm Brogdon said the Cavaliers became comfortable playing in the tournament spotlight in the second half of their game against Coastal Carolina in the second round this past Friday night. The spotlight doesn't get much brighter than Madison Square Garden. "We're really looking forward to it. It's a very historical place. I hope we do all the touring and sight-seeing and things so we won't be awed and star-struck when we play there on the first night so we want to make sure we get all that out of our system," Justin Anderson, UVa's sophomore guard said following the Cavaliers' win over Memphis in the third round.
Sophomore forward Anthony Gill said, "When we do get an opportunity to go to Madison Square Garden like we do, it's the Mecca of basketball. It's great. I have never even been to New York."
Mike Tobey, UVa's sophomore center and Monroe, NY native added, "I'm extremely excited to play there. I grew up in New York so I grew up knowing about Madison Square Garden so I can't wait."
The team was expected to arrive by plane Wednesday around 6:45 p.m. They'll have an open practice Thursday afternoon.
