VIR Open House Raises Money for Charity

Posted:

Alton, VA-- Virginia International Raceway in Halifax County hasn't had their first race of the season yet, but on Friday,  their tracks were buzzing!

They their open house. It was a great opportunity for folks to see all that VIR has to offer.
Everything from their spa, to their kart track and their tavern was available to check out.

But what brought the crowd out to the resort was the chance to drive their own car on VIR's track,  which only happens once a year.

The best part of the event is that with every car that got to drive around VIR's newly repaved course, money was being raised for charity.
All the money from those charity laps goes to Victory Junction. It's a charity founded by former NASCAR driver, Kyle Petty.

"These children that attends this camp are chronically ill. They have challenges that we can't imagine and this gives them a great opportunity to get out there and have fun with people and children that have similar challenges to them," said Mike Rose, Director of Marketing at VIR.

Folks that didn't drive their cars around the track got a chance to ride shot gun. BMW Performance Center and Aerial Atom were also driving guests around the track.
