Danville School Bus Crash Sends Two Children To Hospital


Danville, VA -  Around7:00 Monday morning, Danville Police were called to the 2900 block of West MainStreet for an accident involving a school bus.

Theschool bus #46 (Schoolfield Elementary School), was heading south on W. MainStreet in the right lane and started to make a stop and signaled properly.

Severalvehicles were in the left lane and began to stop. The driver of a Dodge Caravanswerved to avoid another vehicle in the left lane and struck the school bus inthe rear.

Twoof the 21 children who were on the bus went to Danville Regional Medical Centerfor treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Bothchildren were 11 years old. One child was transported by EMS personnel and thesecond by private vehicle. The bus driver was not reported as being injured.Both children were treated and released.

Damageto the school bus is estimated at $2,000 and damage to the Dodge Caravan isestimated at $5,000.

Asa result of the crash, the driver of the Dodge Caravan, 29 year old CandiceDevonne Smith was charged with Failure to Maintain Control.
