Nelson County, VA – A judge denies a defense motion in the case of the man accused of murdering a Nelson County teen.

A pretrial hearing in the case against Randy Taylor was held Monday morning in Nelson County Circuit Court. Taylor is charged with first degree murder and abduction with the intent to defile, in connection to the August 2013 disappearance of Alexis Murphy, 17.

The judge granted a motion by the Commonwealth to close Monday's hearing to the media and public, but court records indicate what was discussed during the hearing.

The defense filed a motion with the court last week asking the judge to suppress from evidence search warrants from three searches last August, and statements made by Taylor to law enforcement about "jailhouse snitches". The Commonwealth claims those searches were legal, as the warrants were issued by a magistrate. The search warrants remain sealed.

The Commonwealth's Attorney's Office confirmed by phone Monday afternoon that the defense motion was denied.  That decision means the search warrants and statements can be presented as evidence during the trial.

Taylor's trial is set to begin May 1.
