Hillcats Prep for Thursday Season Opener

Lynchburg - The Lynchburg Hillcats open their season this Thursday night at home against Frederick.  First pitch is 6:05 at Calvin Falwell Field.

Tuesday was team photo day, beautiful day at the ballpark, everybody saying they wish they could bottle the weather for Opening Night and the rest of the season.  The Hillcats had a light workout in the afternoon, they'll practice in the evening Wednesday.  Manager Luis Salazar says this team should be BETTER than last year's playoff squad.  He says the Hillcats have good speed, some power in the middle of the lineup and strong pitching.  Braves' top prospect number 27 Lucas Sims, a 19-year-old, is slated to start the home opener Thursday night against Frederick.

Lucas Sims, OPENING NIGHT PITCHER, said "You know I'm gonna come right after you with my pace.  I like to pitch quickly, you know quick games.  And more my mound presence, I like competing."

"What's your bread-and-butter pitch?"

Sims said "Fast ball low and away (laughter)."

Josh Elander, HILLCATS LEFT FIELDER, said "Lot of big-name guys and a lot of guys who can throw hard.  So that's a good thing and then you've got speedsters at the top of the lineup and a bunch of guys who can swing it after that.  So we're definitely excited about what we have this year."
