Southside Turns Blue for Autism

Posted:

Danville, VA - All over the world on Wednesday people were lighting up their homes and business in blue in honor of World Autism Awareness Day

The day kicked off Autism Awareness month.

Folks on Southside were participating, calling Wednesday the "Turn Southside Blue" campaign.

Building Blocks Center for Children with Autism in Danville were using their blue lights and wore blue. They said campaigns like this shine a light on just how much research still needs to be done on autism.

"Your whole perspective has to change when you have a kid with special needs and with autism Part of this awareness campaign helps build support around these families," said Ashlee Brown, Director of Behavioral Services, Building Blocks Center for Children with Autism.

Building Blocks Center for Children with Autism is asking for people to use their blue lights all month long. Perhaps use it as your porch light.

You can purchase a blue light bulb from their center on Deer Run Road. All proceeds go toward The Autism Education Fund of the Community Foundation of the Dan River Region.
