Bedford Co., VA - Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown attributes an apparent rise in methamphetamine abuse to a crackdown on pill abuse.

Deputies say they found a working meth lab Monday night at a house on Elk Lake Lane in Forest. Just two weeks ago, they searched a home on Casaloma Driver in Forest, and say meth was being made there. While investigating a toddler's death at a trailer on Peaksview Lane just outside Bedford in February, deputies also shut down the meth lab they say was inside.

Those are three of eight suspected meth lab busts in Bedford County since August.

"There have been a few that were involved in the pill industry that weren't caught," said Sheriff Mike Brown. "We find out after the fact that they indeed had some connection to the other individuals that have been arrested. There is some connection."

There are a total of six people charged with manufacturing methamphetamines in the three most recent cases.
