Danville Celebrates Opening of Main Street Plaza and JTI Fountain

Danville, VA- Wednesday night was a big night for Danville.

The downtown area has been undergoing a makeover for the past couple of years, and on Wednesday another phase of the River District Revitalization project was complete.

They celebrated the opening the JTI Fountain and Main Street Plaza Wednesday night. The project cost $2.6 million.

Vice Mayor Gary Miller said it gives downtown Danville a more vibrant look and is a great entrance to the city.

"This is just great," said Miller.  "This opens up the city. This has been our plan all along and this will be the gateway to downtown."

The fountain was donated to the city by Japan Tobacco International. The seven jets in the fountain represent the seven blocks of the Tobacco Warehouse District.
