Ice Cream Truck Drivers Robbed at Gunpoint in Lynchburg

Lynchburg, VA - Drivers of the Daily Dollar Ice Cream truck are recalling the terrifying night when they were robbed at gunpoint.

The robbery happened on Wednesday around 9 p.m. when the drivers returned the trucks to the company's office lot on Oakley Avenue in Lynchburg.

"I just heard somebody yell, and I turned around and he had his gun right in front of my face," said driver Ashby Massie.

Massie says it happened in a matter of minutes.

"They put the gun back on me and said 'Don't move or we'll pop you,'" Massie said.

All of the drivers were coming in for the night to drop money off when they say two gunmen wearing all black clothing and ski masks entered.

The gunmen ordered everyone to get down on the ground.

"As I was sitting there I was just praying to God, ‘just get me through this. Please let it hurry up and be over.' And they just kept saying they were going to kill us," Massie recalled.

Massie says the men didn't even notice a deposit box that was on one of tables behind them or her wallet beside it.

The drivers say this didn't feel like a random robbery.

"I feel like they were waiting for us to get back, at first there were too many of us then those two girls left," Massie said.

Although she still has the vivid memory of a gun being pointed at her face, Massie says she wouldn't want to work anywhere else.

"I just love it," Massie said.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

The owner of Daily Dollar Ice Cream truck says they will be taking more secure measures to help make sure this doesn't happen again.
