Former Hokie Running Back Heading To Prison

Michael Holmes Michael Holmes

Christiansburg, VA - Former Virginia Tech running back, Michael Holmes, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in an armed burglary.

Holmes will serve two years with the remaining time suspended.

The former star from Harrisonburg pleaded no contest last year to conspiracy after a man was robbed of drugs and money, at gunpoint, in his Blacksburg apartment.

Holmes was connected to the crime through his cell phone and later after an accessory implicated him.

Holmes was also found guilty last year of misdemeanor battery after a fight in April following the Hokies' Spring Game.

That conviction led to Holmes' dismissal from Virginia tech and the football team.
