Danville Public Schools Considers George Washington High School Parent Committee Proposal on Scheduling Change

Danville, VA-- George Washington High School Students in Danville may have a completely different schedule next year.

The Danville Public School Board is considering switching GW's schedule from an AB schedule, which alternates days a class meets for an entire year,  to a 4x4 block schedule.
That schedule allows students to take 4 classes per day, every day for one semester.

That schedule was met with some opposition. A parent committee came up with a proposal to change the schedule to a combination of the 4 by 4 and some sort of an alternating schedule. It's called a 4x4 Hybrid schedule.

Danville Public Schools Superintendent said the proposal will be considered and a decision will be made in the best interest of all the students.

"You have students who need support because they're not performing up our expectations and expectations of the business industry and the world," said Dr. Edward Newsome, Danville Public Schools Superintendent.  "You also have students who are being involved in very rigorous programs, like the AP classes."

Newsome said they will make a decision before the end of the school year.
