Appomattox Co., VA - Authorities in Appomattox County have teamed up with the U.S. Marshals Office to apprehend a suspected shooter.

Warrants were issued for Carlton Edward Massenburg of Meherrin, for his alleged role in a shooting outside of the Carver Price Cultural Center in Appomattox.

Charges include malicious wounding, possessing and using a firearm in a felony. Authorities responded shortly after 1 a.m. on March 16 as a fight had broken out in the parking lot, after a party at the center. Nearly a dozen persons were reportedly involved in the fight, when shots rang out.

James Broggin, 48, was shot in the stomach, and transported to Lynchburg General Hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Appomattox Sheriff Barry Letterman tells WSET that a gun was recovered. Forensic testing, according to Letterman, determined that this was the gun used in the shooting.

Since the warrants were issued, Carlton Massenburg has been missing from his home and his job. However, Sheriff Letterman says that Massenburg may have connections in the Richmond area.
