VMI Football Gearing up for Spring Game


Lexington - The VMI Keydets scrimmage this Saturday at 1, their spring game is set for two weeks from Saturday.

It's a year of change for the Keydets, moving back to the Southern Conference.  With the graduation of quarterbacks Eric Kordenbrock and A.J. Augustine,  four players are now battling for the top spot, number 12 rising redshirt sophomore Hayden Alford the oldest of the bunch. Standout running back Derrick Ziglar of Martinsville is back for his junior season, the Keydets looking to bounce back from a 2-and-10 season a year ago.

Sparky Woods, 7TH-YEAR VMI HEAD COACH, said "I think we're faster on defense, I think we've got better execution offense, more explosive players on offense.  I think both sides of the ball line of scrimmage is better."

Derrick Ziglar, VMI R-JUNIOR RUNNING BACK, said "Our goal is to win games.  We want to win the Southern Conference, that's our goal of course.  We come here to play ball, we come here to win, and our whole agenda is to turn this program around and start winning football games."
