Lynchburg - 12-year-old Sophia Palladino has done it again!
The Forest Middle School student has advanced all the way to the Elks Hoop Shoot National Championship in Springfield, Massachusetts this Saturday for the FIFTH consecutive year. Only a few competitors have made it to the finals four times, this is FIVE STRAIGHT for Sophia. She won the national championship in 2011 and got her name on the Hoop Shoot Plaque of Champions inside the NBA Hall of Fame. Sophia's record best for made free throws without missing is 95! You heard me right, 95 in a row. She's 12 years old.
Sophia Palladino, 5TH-STRAIGHT HOOP SHOOT NATIONALS, said "I want to win, but if you get 25 out of 25 you get a Getty Powell Award and if you're the best girl free throw shooter out of all the age groups, you get to go to Arizona or Florida. So I'm trying to do that."
"Sophia, what's the secret to being a great free throw shooter?"
Sophia said "Well, I just try to keep the form simple and I stick to my form and I have a good attitude and you usually make it if you do that."
