Lynchburg Fire Dept. Museum In Works, Will House Warehouse Of Artifacts

Lynchburg, VA - A warehouse in Lynchburg has been filled with artifacts from the Lynchburg Fire Department dating back as early as the 1870s.

Retired fire fighters have been collecting and restoring the antiques to eventually be housed in a Lynchburg Fire Department Museum. Trucks, pumps, ladders, all began popping up when departments would go to clean out their storage.

The Lynchburg Fire Department Museum Incorporated has been created as an official non-profit looking to immortalize the amazing pieces of history.

"There's little tedious parts of it that have to be done right. Figuring out what artifact came off of what truck. We have such a collection of antiques that date back to the 1870s and we just want to preserve them" said Rodney Smith, the LFD Museum President.

A location or opening date for a museum has not yet been finalized. The organization is accepting donations. If you'd like to help them in their effort to find a home for their pieces of history, visit their website,
