'Little Feet' Meet in Lynchburg

Lynchburg, VA - It was a perfect day for the Little Feet Meet at Heritage High School in Lynchburg Friday.

The7th annual event drew in about 200 Special Olympics athletes for competition in all types of track and field events.

It is a partnership between Lynchburg City Schools and Special Olympics Virginia.

The elementary school kids who participated trained for up to eight weeks.

Organizers say the competition is held in a spirit of respect, inclusion, and unity.

"It is absolutely a fabulous event, because this day focuses on them, it is all about what their ability is, and showing the community what they can do, and being appreciated for what their abilities are," said Coordinator Joanne Catron.

Special Olympians from 10 elementary schools from in and around Lynchburg participated.

Students from Liberty University and Lynchburg College helped out as volunteers
