Liberty University Breaks Ground On School of Music Building

Lynchburg, VA - Liberty University broke ground for its next construction project Friday for The Center for Music and Worship Arts.

The school says their worship arts program will mix together with music to form "The School of Music" which is already rated as the 7th largest in the country. The new building will feature 50 practice rooms, more than 100 thousand square feet of teaching space, and a 16 hundred seat auditorium.

"It's really just an integral part of everything we offer here. It's fitting that it would be one of the nicest academic buildings because it is always such an important program here. My father used to say music and sports were two universal languages that all young people understood, so that's been one of the strategies to build Liberty is music and sports," said President Jerry Falwell Jr.

Construction begins Monday. The project has two phases. The first is estimated to be finished August 2015 and the second by January of 2016.
