Changes In Lynchburg Tourism Plan Raise Questions

Lynchburg, VA -

As spring time quickly turns to summer, tourists have begun to visit Lynchburg, and are learning what the city has to offer. Lynchburg businesses and tourist attractions are anxiously awaiting to see how the change in tourism strategy will affect them.

After a lengthy dispute, the City took over tourism from the Chamber of Commerce on January 1st. Included in that was the "Discover Lynchburg" website.

A quick look at the site reveals some updating, as the events page is up to date. However, some broken links are visible, including a blog on future events. The press center has not been updated since December of 2012.

For tourists like Brian Hilt from Sedona, Arizona, social media and advice from locals has paid off, in addition to the websites. Hilt said that he got advice from "Just any type of social media, social area you can get to..Anything you can get your hands on, basically."

With new avenues of information spreading, local businesses hope that tourists, like Brian and Mary, continue to visit Lynchburg for years to come.
