LCS to Participate in Walk to School on Earth Day

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg City Schools' Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program will be participating in Walk to School on Earth Day at four LCS elementary schools.

Safe Routes to School is a national program to make walking and biking to school a safer and more appealing option to access school and to emphasize the importance of physical activity in the health and well-being of our children.

Dearington, T. C. Miller, R. S. Payne, and Paul Munro elementary schools will participate in the Walk to School Day on April 22nd.

On the morning of April 22nd students, including bus and car riders, will walk along with parents, teachers, and community volunteers from a central location located close to each school to recognize Earth Day.

Walk to School Day events are hosted across the country to create safer routes for children to walk and bike to local schools, remind motorist to be alert and drive accordingly around school facilities, and to emphasize the importance of physical activity in the health and well-being of our children.

Walking and biking to school will also provide opportunities for children and families to reduce their carbon usage and emissions. So, walking to school on Earth Day will also help contribute to the health of the environment.
