Hundreds In Cash Stolen In Boonsboro Country Club Break-In

Boonsboro, VA - Hours after a day-long golf tournament, Boonsboro Country Club employees, had to pick up the pieces after two people, they say broke in to their pro-shops early Tuesday morning, and stole hundreds of dollars in cash.

Bedford County Deputies are now searching for the two who did it.

"I think we've used the word, feeling violated. It's like our home when we work here for so long" said Brad Barden, the country club's General Manager.

"When we came in this morning, we found this door ajar, the cash drawer on the floor" he said.

Barden said the intruders left a clumsy crime scene with broken glass, doors left wide open, displays and the like, all destroyed.

"It seemed pretty obvious they were after the cash and not merchandise" he said.

The club house and two pro-shops were broken into. But rackets, clothing, and clubs totaling thousands of dollars were left untouched.

It's clear what they wanted was cash said Barden. He said they took only two backpacks, perhaps to carry the loot.

"The cash probably in the $500-700 range; our surveillance cameras showed, we found them walking across the parking lot. No evidence that they had their car here in their parking lot but we saw them walking" said Barden.

The cameras placed them in the shops at around 2:30 a.m. There was no audible alarm system, but Barden said now, he's considering one.

"We're in recovery mode now, putting it back together and we'll be looking at some other additional security measures going forward" he said.

Bedford County Sheriff's Deputies spent the better part of Tuesday morning investigating the scene. If you have any information that could help them in an arrest, call the sheriff's office at (540)586-4800.
