Retired LPD Officer Loses Battle With Cancer


Lynchburg, VA – Retired LPD Officer Stuart I. Mack passed away on Thursday after losing his battle with cancer.

Officer Mack was a 29-year veteran of the Lynchburg Police Department. He joined the department in 1984 and graduated from the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Basic Academy # 22.

During his career, Officer Mack served in Patrol Operations and in the Investigations Bureau as a Narcotics / Vice Detective. He was a Department of Criminal Justice Services Defensive Tactics instructor for 18-years and was the recipient of the Lynchburg Police Department Meritorious Service Award for his years of sustained, superior performance while serving the citizens of Lynchburg.

After retiring from law enforcement in 2010, he continued his service to the Lynchburg community by becoming a Lynchburg Police Department Animal Warden until December of 2013.

He was an extremely well liked and respected officer and he will be sorely missed by his Lynchburg Police Department family.   

At this time, funeral arrangements have not been finalized.
