Late model stock driver Matt Bowling made a pass for the lead with just three laps left and won the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at South Boston Speedway.
Locals Jeb Burton and Timothy Peters joined the talented race lineup and ran well early. The red flag came out at lap nine when six cars wound up in a heap in turn one. On lap 68, Peters and Burton racing for position inside the top ten when Peters turns Burton in turn 4. On lap 94 Denny Hamlin spins on the front stretch. Burton would have a rough night. Lap 116, he gets tangled up with Blake Stallings. Stallings would get out of his car and had some words for Burton. Matt Waltz who dominated the race lost the lead with three to go to Matt Bowling. Bowling takes checkers to become just the second local driver to win the Short Track Showdown. Kyle Busch was fourth, Matt Kenseth fifth, Hamlin eighth.
Matt Bowling, SHORT TRACK SHOWDOWN WINNER, said "It's very unreal. This is an awesome experience. Man we worked hard all weekend. We unloaded yesterday and really wasn't hitting on much. But my crew chief and all my crew just buckled down and figured this thing out."
