Final Preps For Blue Ridge Marathon

Posted:
Roanoke, VA - Thousands are headed to Roanoke this weekend to run the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon.

It's the first big weekend of the city's jam-packed festival season and there are some changes you need to know about.

Crews were busy Friday putting on the final touches and getting everything ready.

There are changes to the marathon route this year.  After dealing with flooding on the course, it will now have a more residential feel. That means if you see temporary "no parking" signs pay attention because the race starts early Saturday and towing will be enforced.

The other big change is the location of the start and finish line -- which is now set in and around a renovated Elmwood Park.

"We are really excited about that. It's a beautiful venue and setting that allows us to have music throughout the day as well as a concert a night. So we are really pleased with the changes and we are excited to see how they are implemented tomorrow," said race chairman, Pete Eshelman.

The race coincides with the Down by Downtown Music Festival which started Thursday and runs through Sunday featuring dozens of artists playing more than 20 venues.
