UPDATE: A preliminary hearing was held, Monday, for Cordell Carter, the man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend in January.

Family members of Cordell Carter and Jennifer Johnson were in the courtroom and sat just one row from each other. Carter was dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit and showed no emotion as Johnson's 14-year old son took the stand.

Johnson's son testified that he, his 7-year-old brother and mother were in the house that day on January 14. He says that's when Carter, who is Johnson's on again off again boyfriend and father of her youngest child, walked in.

According to Johnson's son, the two went to his mother's room and closed the door. He stated he could hear the two arguing from the other room. Moments later, he says Carter walked out of the house.

Members of Johnson's family who were in court today held back tears as the 14-year-old recalled discovering his mother's body on the bedroom floor. He says he ran to his Uncle's home and called 911.

Carter's attorney motioned to dismiss the case, stating that there was not enough evidence to show that Carter was indeed the one that fired the gun.
However, the judge denied his motion and moved the case to the grand jury set for June 10.

The judge also denied a subsequent bond motion.________________
