Scam Alert: Man Trying to Impersonate Law Enforcement

Buckingham County, VA - The Buckingham County Sheriff's Office wants you to be on the lookout for a scam in Buckingham County.

Deputies say a victim was pulled over by a small gray or white car on Route 15 South with police lights.

They say a white male went to her car and told her she was speeding and that she had a taillight out.

The victim asked to see identification and police say the suspect became irate and began to curse.

Then, police say the suspect asked the victim to get out of the car.

When the victim refused to get out of the car - the man grabbed her wrist and tried to pull her out.

Police say the victim took off and the suspect followed her for a while before turning away.

If you saw this incident... call the Buckingham County Sheriff's Office.

They say to remember that police cars have a siren and more than one set of alternating blue lights and white strobes.

And you are well within your rights to ask an officer for identification.

If you do not feel like it is a safe area to stop when being pulled over, you can proceed, at a safe speed, to an area where other can witness the stop.

If you are in doubt what to do in a situation, call dispatch and they will let you know.
