Whittenburg at Lynchburg Sports Club

The final Lynchburg Sports Club meeting of the 2013-2014 season featured guest speaker Dereck Whittenburg.  The N.C. State basketball legend and member of the 1983 National Championship Team talked about his days with the Wolfpack. He was also a High School All-American, 2nd Team All-ACC, former NBA player, Executive Producer of ESPN 30 for 30 Documentary "Survive & Advance" and current Assistant Basketball Coach at N.C. State.

The club also recognized the first annual male & female scholar athlete of the year awards. The male recipient was Elijah Gallagher from Heritage High School and the female recipient was Anne David from Holy Cross Regional School.

Four additional state championship coaches were also honored:
Rodney Smith with EC Glass High School won in both the Boys and Girls Indoor Track & Field.
Mike Cartolaro with Altavista High School won the Boys Basketball State Championship
Darko Sedlar with VES won the Girls Basketball State Championship
Wistar Nelligan with EC Glass High School who is the 2013 State Champion Tennis Coach
