Hillcats Fail to Protect Late Lead Again

Lynchburg - For the second straight night, the Hillcats took a lead into the ninth inning at home, only for Carolina to rally and win the game.

The Mudcats rallied for three runs in the ninth to wipe out a 7-5 deficit and beat Lynchburg 8-7, completing a three-game series sweep.  Lynchburg had taken a 6-3 lead in the sixth with four runs, three coming on a bases-clearing triple by Daniel Castro, who went 3-for-3 on the night with four RBIs.
Castro became the third Hillcat to notch four RBIs in a game this year, it was also his third three-hit game of the season.

But Carolina chipped away at the deficit, getting a two-run homer by Anthony Gallas in the eighth to pull within 6-5.  Lynchburg added an insurance run in the eighth on a Castro sac fly to take a 7-5 lead into the ninth, but it would not be enough as the Mudcats score three in their final at-bat and hold Lynchburg scoreless in the bottom of the ninth to win 8-7.

Lynchburg begins a seven-game road trip Thursday at Wilmington.
