Campbell County School Board Makes Budget Changes

Posted:

Campbell County, VA- Campbell County Schools are facing a budget shortfall  and as a result they will be cutting positions.

Monday night, the School Board adopted amendments to the 2014-15 school year operating budget. They have had to make adjustments based on what they think they will receive from the state.

The Campbell County Board of Supervisors had their budget meeting Monday night as well. Schools Superintendent Robert Johnson says they are thankful for the extra funds the supervisors gave them, it was not as much as they asked for and that left them with a $330,000 short-fall. To make up for that they had to cut six vacant positions and cut the proposed two percent raise for employees down to 1.5 percent.

"We're at a point where it's difficult for us to cut anything, but these are difficult times and we recognize that. Every year's been tough, this year hasn't been as challenging as some of the ones in the past, but I think the Supervisors and the School Board have worked well together to manage the recession and we are hopefully gonna be coming out of that soon," said Johnson.

Johnson says once a state budget is passed they will still have to make a few minor changes.
