Lynchburg Students to Get Chromebooks

Posted:
Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg City Schools don't want their students to lag just because they don't have access to a computer.

They're rolling out the LCS-ONE program next school year, the school system was unveiled Monday night.

Starting in the fall, it will be implemented over a three year period.

Each student in grades 4 through 12 will end up with a Chromebook. The LCS-ONE program is being paid for by state technology funds.

People got to learn about the program and try out the laptops Monday night.

"The really powerful thing about these devices, these Chromebooks, is that it gets people working together, collaborating in ways that maybe they haven't before.  And that can really pull the best out of a child," said Rushton Hurley, Mondays night's keynote speaker and Founder of Next Vista for Learning.

Next fall, all 9th grade students at Glass and Heritage will get their Chromebook and by the end of the 2016-2017 school year all high school students will have a device.

In the years that follow, all students in 4th-8th grade will get a Chromebook to use, too.
