Wendell Scott Elected to NASCAR Hall of Fame

Posted:
Charlotte -  NASCAR's Hall of Fame is opening its doors to the late Wendell Scott of Danville, one of five new members selected Wednesday for the Class of 2015.

Scott was one of NASCAR's true trailblazers, the first African-American to race fulltime in the sport's premier series and the first to win on the big circuit.  He got the second highest vote total this year, runnerup to Bill Elliot, winner of 44 Cup races and the 1988 championship.  Joe Weatherly is also Hall of Fame bound, the winner of back-to-back titles in 62 and '63.  1960 champion Rex White is also picked for the Hall of Fame, along with another driver in the 60's Fred Lorenzen.  Induction Day is Friday, January 30th at the Hall of Fame in Charlotte.
