Public Hearing Set in Danville for Proposed Electric Rate Increase

Posted:
Danville, VA - Danville residents could soon see higher electric bills.

Danville City Council is giving citizens a chance to have their say on the issue before a decision is made. On Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Danville City Council will hold a public hearing and a first reading of a proposal to increase electric rates.

On average, the customer's bill would go up about $2 a month.

The proposal comes after a recommendation from a study by the Danville Utility Commission that showed that Danville Utilities' critical reserve fund is struggling.

The reasons for the proposed increase include higher purchasing costs in the winter and years of undercharging residents.

If approved, the rate increase would take effect July 1.
