Mommy Monday: Be a Therapeutic Foster Care Parent

Posted:
Lynchburg, VA - Tonight's Mommy Monday is all about specialized foster care and why it's so important to find good homes for kids who are victims of abuse or dysfunction. The Presbyterian Homes and Family Services and the Family Alliance is putting on an open house to educate the community and find interested people who could help take in some of these kids.

Specialized foster care is taking in kids who have endured various types of abuse and dysfunction. The group gets referrals from Social Services in different localities around the state. The kids range in age from four to 18.

PHFSFA does provide support services, with on-going training and 24-hour crisis support services. It also has a tax free monthly stipend.

So do you meet the qualifications? Probably! Anyone can be a foster parent, whether you are single, married, or even have your own biological children. PHFSFA says it works closely with each family to identify the best placement for them and the child.

It takes about 8 to 12 weeks to get approved.

If you want to learn more, there is an open house scheduled for June 14th from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. . This event will allow interested parents to ask questions, learn about the program and speak with current foster parents.

That's at the PHFS Lynchburg Campus at 150 Linden Avenue.
