Posted: Updated:
UPDATE: Dorothy Stroud pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty charges Thursday in court.

All charges were dismissed, except the inadequate care charge.

For that charge, Stroud was fined $250.

That fine was suspended with the condition that she not ever have any animals in her possession.

When the cooler was found in early June, police also found eight cats inside her house.
All of those cats were placed in the care of the Danville Area Humane Society and all had to be put down because of health issues.
Stroud's attorney argued the cats were not hers and she said she didn't know about the dead cats in the cooler.
However, the prosecutor said she could have cared for the cats or had them removed.

Stroud's niece testified Thursday, saying the cats in her house looked scary to her.
Stroud agreed at the last hearing that she should not have any more companion animals in her possession.

UPDATE: The woman facing animal cruelty charges has signed custody of her cats over to the Danville Humane Society.

In a Danville General District Court hearing,  Dorothy Stroud agreed to let the Humane Society set up traps on her property to catch the remaining cats and she also agreed not to keep any more cats.

Danville, VA - A woman facing animal cruelty charges didn't show up in court Tuesday.

The Danville Area Humane Society confiscated eight cats and four dead ones, which were found in a cooler in front of a house on Gray Street. Two of the confiscated cats had to be put down because of health issues.

Tuesday, Dorothy Stroud was scheduled for her arraignment for animal cruelty charges, inadequate space charges, and more. She now is facing a failure to appear in court charge and a show cause order was issued.
