LYNCHBURG - It's not an understatement to say the Brookville Bees (26-0) are loaded with talent. Up and down the roster they have a perfect blend of veteran leadership and top notch freshmen. That presence was on full display in the Bees' Friday afternoon 3-1 win over Park View-South Hill in the Group 3A state semifinals.
Megan Dray, a freshman catcher who has already verbally committed to North Carolina (the Tar Heels head coach was in the crowd), hit a two-RBI double in the first inning to give the Bees a 2-0 lead.
In the next inning senior Morgan Bruce crushed a pitch way over the left-center field fence for a solo home run. "That was one of the first balls this season that I knew was going over the fence and I knew I didn't have to sprint [around the bases] so I was really happy about that," Bruce said.
Another freshman Jordan Dail has been coach Gary Ferguson's ace in the circle all season and she delivered again Friday. Throwing a complete game, she allowed just one run.
Brookville will face Turner Ashby Saturday at 10 a.m. at Liberty for the state championship. That game is a rematch of last weekend's Region championship game in which Brookville won.
